    PMP® stands for Project Management Professional certification. PMP® certification is offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI), the largest project management professional organization in the world, and is the preeminent certification for project managers. PMP® is a globally recognized certification exam and is well respected in the industry.

  7. What kind of organization is PMI®?

    Project Management Institute was founded in 1969. PMI started the PMP® exam in 1984. PMI has chapters across the globe. These chapters provide extensive help in preparing for the exam. PMI had around 3,10,000 members. PMI offers following global certifications:

    Yes. Student need to attend all 40 Hrs of training to get PMP Preparation Course certificate of 40 PDUs.

  14. How do I receive the Project Management Professional (PMP®)?

    To obtain the PMP ® credential, you must first demonstrate that you are eligible by meeting the following eligibility requirements.

    Category 1: Bachelor/equivalent university degree. 4500 hours of Project Management Experience. 3 years of Project Management Experience within the past six-year period prior to the application. 36 unique (non-overlapping) months of Project Management experience.35 contact hours of Project Management education. Cost: $555.00 U.S. Dollars for non-members of PMI; $405.00 U.S. Dollars for members of PMI.

    Category 2: High school diploma/equivalent secondary school credential. 7500 hours of Project Management Experience. Five years of Project Management Experience within the past eight-year period prior to the application. 60 unique (non-overlapping) months of project management experience.35 contact hours of Project Management education. Cost: $555.00 U.S. Dollars for non-members of PMI; $405.00 U.S. Dollars for members of PMI.

  15. How is the 4500 to 7500+ hours experience calculated?

    Not as big as it sounds. The time is to be non-overlapping and based on time spent on the project itself, not the overall project duration. A rough calculation is you need about three years with a university degree or about five years with a high school diploma. The objective is something that was involving people with time constraints and limitation on resources & expenditures.

  16. How much does it cost to take the exam of PMP® Exam?

    PMP is an expensive exam. This ensures that only serious candidates pursue it. It also ensures that the certificate remains prestigious. The exam costs $405 for PMI members and $555 for non-members. Since the annual fees for PMI membership is $129+Local Chapter fee, it makes sense to become a member and then apply for the exam.

  17. How many questions are there in the PMP® exam? How much time do I get?

    The PMP exam is a computer based exam conducted in the Prometric centers. The exam has 200 multiple choice questions. Each question has exactly one correct answer. You will get four hours to answer these questions. Most people find four hours to be more than sufficient for the exam. Out of these 200 questions, 25 questions are pretest questions. These are randomly places throughout the exam and are used for research purposes. These questions are not evaluated while computing exam results. You will only be evaluated on the basis of 175 questions.

    To pass the PMP examination, you must answer a minimum of 106 of the 175 scored questions correctly. After you finish and submit the exam, in the Prometric center you will immediately receive the overall grade-sheet for the exam in the Prometric center.

  18. Is there any negative marking in PMP® exam?

    There is no negative marking in the exam. Unanswered questions are treated as wrong questions. Exam is preceded by 15-minute computer tutorial on the format of the exam. After clearing the exam, you will receive the PMP certificate by mail after 4-6 weeks. Examination scores are confidential. About 61% candidates clear the exam.

  19. Can I take a break in the PMP® exam?

    Yes, but the break time is also counted in the given exam duration.

  20. Can I really pass the PMI certification exam the first time?

    Yes, with the right preparation. The issue knows what to study without going overboard. We focus your study on just what it will take to insure your success. Our goal is for you to pass in the first time. Our 98% students are clearing examination in first attempt in last 12 months.

  21. If I fail in PMP® exam, can I take it again? If so, when can I take it? How often can I take the test again?

    Candidates have 1 year from the date of their last exam, to apply for a re-examination.

    Candidates wishing to take a re-examination will pay a re-exam certification examination fee of $275 for members. You can take maximum of 3 times in a year from date of approval of your application.

  22. What is the new format of the PMP® exam?

    The exam has more stress on practical knowledge. The exam also has more scenario-based questions, less direct questions. Exam results are divided in six areas. There are no minimum marks in separate areas.

  23. How do I prepare for PMP® certification?

    The program is mainly based on the PMBOK 4th edition. PMBOK stands for Project Management Body of Knowledge. When you become a member of PMI, you get the PMBOK from PMI Website. PMBOK is very short and concise. Most people find it a bit difficult to read. The current exam is based on the fourth edition of PMBOK. The approach that we will suggest is this - Read the PMBOK casually.

    1. Read the Course ware/Study material given by ICBMS.
    2. Read the PMBOK® once again.
    3. Take a few mock exams (1000 to 1500 questions) (Sample website www.myqhub.com).
    4. Revisit PMBOK while you taking mock exams for reference.
    5. Revise the sections of the books and PMBOK on which you are not scoring well.

    When you start scoring above 75% in the mock exams, you are ready to visit a Prometric center for the exam.

  24. How much time does it take to prepare for the PMP certification exam?

    The amount of time it will take you to prepare for the PMP certification exam will depend on how much experience you have as a project manager, how familiar are you with PMI's terminology, which book you use to prepare etc. By spending 2 to 3 hours a day needs 2 to 3 months of preparation to take exam.

  25. Is PMP Certificate is valid for lifetime?

    No, Your PMP Certificate is valid for only 3 years. During 3 years time you need to earn 60 PDUs.

  26. What are PDUs?

    PDU stands for Professional Development Units. After you become a certified PMP®, you need to earn 60 PDUs within three years. (Ex. Taking PMP® Exam Prep classes, presenting some papers in PMP® journals, attending seminars etc). Please check PMI.org for details.
